OK, folks! Season 14 is finally upon us! Unfortunately I'm going to miss it due to a previously scheduled baseball game for which I have tickets. From Shane's review, it sounds like the premiere is gonna be pretty awesome. I look forward to your comments!

Well I am confused and shocked. From what we heard all summer DB will make a decision that will have repercusions throughout the season. My question is, what decision?
I'm shocked because i didn't see what Ellie did coming. About half way through i started to get the feeling that Ellie was involved with everything and then her phone call to Brass pretty much confirmed it. But when she shot Morgan in the back...
Paul G. was brilliant. The look of horror on his face when he went into the hotel room where Ellie and Nancy were staying after everything was over with Chinese food and found Nancy dead on the floor in a pool of blood and then Ellie standing behind him with a gun drawn and Brass coming to the conclusion that she had killed her mother and was behind everything that happened. What a performance from Paul/Brass. I wanted to kill Ellie myself when she told Brass why she killed her mother and how everything was his fault. She had daddy issues.
Ecklie was really good too. When he grabbed that guy by the shirt and pushed him into the wall I actually cheered. I have never seen Ecklie act like that. I wouldn't mind seeing that side of Ecklie more often. I didn't think he had it in him. He is always so cool and calm. Brass was the calm, cool, collected one.
Not a lot of Nick and Greg but what was with Greg charging into that building the way he did. That was so out of character.
As for the storyline itself, maybe if i knew the story of Dante's Inferno it would of made more sense to me. I found it hard trying to keep up. Still don't understand the importance of the reporter in this episode. What was his purpose?

Dante's Inferno is a creepy, creepy poem. Makes Poe look pretty mild.
Anyway, I was confused about Ellie's involvement. Was she part of everything or just went along with her boyfriend like weak women tend to do? I can't imagine she's taken the time to read "Divine Comedy."

Considering Ellie's past and how she felt about her dad i would say she was a part of everything.

Wow! What a great way to start the season. I totally did not see that coming. Right up til about 2/3 of the way through I was sure it was the reporter or the kid. I guess the kid was part of it but his brother and Ellie were the primary culprits.
I do have to agree with the statements I've read about it being the best performance from Paul since A Bullet Runs Through It. He was fantastic. I don't think they've really given Brass a chance to shine the past few seasons so it's about time. Stellar performance from beginning to end. He really wanted to choose Ellie when she made that call, but he just couldn't do it. I liked getting a little incite into Brass, learning that Nancy was the only one he ever loved, but I'm not actually surprised being as we've never seen him show any interest in any sort of relationship or even dating in 14 seasons. I was a little sad when he told Ellie she killed the only person who really, truly loved her. Ellie really had some issues and she killed her biggest ally. By the end I wanted to jump into my tv and give Brass a big ole hug. He definitely needed one. I am concerned about the ramifications for him going forward. And I hope they don't gloss over it and try to fix it to early on like they tend to do sometimes.
Over all I think it was a good way to tie up the Ellie story line. Unfortunate but good. And I think it was Chris Barbour who said there may be the trial later on too. So we may see some loose ends closed up there.
One thing I really enjoyed was Greg taking Sara to school about the DNA code. I think it was very appropriate that our DNA king go back to his lab rat roots for that. I wasn't at all surprised at Greg running into the building, it may not have been the smartest thing but definitely a Greg thing in my opinion. I think he'd have done the same for Sara and probably Nick as well.
I also felt like this episode had a little more science for the main cast and a little less, let's pretend we're cops. There is still a too much leading the police into buildings rather than letting them clear it first for me but I guess that is something we are stuck with at this point.
All this talk of remembering the past of the show this season because of the 300th ep, makes me wonder how many other loose ends they will finally tie up. And are they preparing for this or next to be the final season?
For the most part, I really great premiere. Now they've set the bar this high, they've got some work cut out for them for the rest of the season.

The reporter John Mercheston was following CSI around for a story in 13.22, end of last season. So he was part of the case. He was also a suspect at times.
We see a funeral in a Church. Not a good start to season. Morgan Brody and Ellie Brass held hostage. Continuation of season 13 ender kidnapping for the 9 Deadly Sins. Took a bit to get going. Morgan worked to get free, good job! But was a surprised when Ellie shot Morgan. Why didn't Morgan take gun? She's the professional.
When Ellie talked to Jim on the phone I thought maybe she was in on it. Then Matthew took phone away, I thought maybe not. Also surprised she stabbed her mom, Nancy to death. Jim Brass coming in and finding her dead and Ellie with the gun, wow. Jim didn't always I don't think try to help Ellie. But could it be any worse for him? I had tears when they talked.
I felt so bad for Jim and Ecklie, and the team. I could see it was tearing up Jim especially when Ellie called. Also you could see Greg more then Hodges was worried about Morgan. Never a big Conrad Ecklie fan, but felt sorry for him too. All actors did a good job! Surprised they didn't have Detective Lou Vartrann and Detective Kevin Crawford helping. They know Morgan and should be friends with Brass and Ecklie. Morgan and Brass will have mental problems for awhile. So will Morgan physically.
To me Bradley Cooper is today's Tim Mathewson who played Oliver Tate.
